About Us
Cherllisha Silva is the owner/therapist of BodyWisdom
"As a school leaver my first career of choice would have been Physiotherapy. Circumstances meant that was not to be, however, the beginnings of a career in the caring professions eventually resurfaced in 2005 in the form of an invitation to attend a Namikoshi Shiatsu course with Pamela Meeking-Stewart at the Woolshed (see www.thewoolshed.com).
Since then I have trained in Thai Foot Massage in Thailand(see www.tmcschool.com), Indian Head Massage (see www.indianheadmassage.co.nz), Holistic Relaxation, Sports and Therapeutic massage , New Zealand First Light FLower Essences and last, but not least, in 2008 qualified with a Diploma of Proficiency in Bowen Therapy, the original Bowen Technique ( see www.bowtech.com ).
I worked as a personal trainer on vibration fitness equipment (Powerplate) in 2006 for a year, then as a massage therapist at Bodyworks Fitness Centre for 19 months until it closed in November 2009. From December 2009 I worked out of Arena Health and Sports Medicine at a massage therapist.
My other interests include :
A love of nature - as a conservationist I took up another nuturing role as a volunteer and paid co-ordinator of Nga Uruora Kapiti Project for five years from 2001 to 2005. This conservation project has a vision to bring Kapiti Island’s dawn chorus back to the coast by recreating a ribbon of coastal forest as bird habitat. For more information on this valuable and effective community-based project and for volunteering opportunities (see www.kapitibush.org.nz). This experience provided valuable learning about our connection to the land and to nature itself. It was rich with the intensity of hard work, the joy and gratitude of being in touch with nature and a sense of purpose in the giving back to mother nature from which so much has been taken. What better attributes and skills to transfer to the health sector.
Family - In 1988 and 1993 I gave birth to two beautiful children at home with the guidance of the New Zealand Home Birth Association. Both those experiences gave me a huge amount of confidence in the natural processes of life. During the child rearing years, I trained as a Playcentre Assistance Supervisor at Lower Hutt Playcentre and supervised play sessions for a couple of years. I gained useful knowledge for life in childhood development and people development.
Diversity - Even further back that this I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Linguistics) and was a Tutor of English for Speakers of Other Languages with the Multicultural Education Resource Centre in Wellington. This work was born out of a love of travel and the diversity of peoples and cultures.
Creativity - photography is a long time interest and I currently also create short stories and poems in "me" time.
Cheers!

Lance Jensen, Business Coach
“Cherllisha has an amazing ability to find the exact place within a muscle that hurts, and coax the pain out to leave your muscles feeling warm and relaxed. She uses lots of towels and cushions to improve your comfort and listens to your feedback. I’ve had everyone I’ve talked to at Bodyworks recommend her”
Rachel Norton, Personal Trainer/Student
“I feel rich” (Thai Foot Massage)
Ezra Blaza Forest, Drummer
"Regular Bowen Therapy and massages with BodyWisdom are important in managing my potentially disabling neurological condition. They assist in maintaining my overall physical and mental health. The gentleness of the Bowen Technique has resulted in improvement in balance, walking distances, restoring lost energy and making daily routine decisions. Massage has been helpful for muscle weakness. The skilled and knowledgeable consultations have allowed me to develop sensitivity to my physical and mental needs and to determine my own body work requirements. Cherllisha has taken care to address changes in my condition, to consult with me about my health requirements and the related outcomes.
I continue to be very satisfied with my ongoing treatments by Cherllisha, and the related outcomes. I unreservedly recommend her professional skills and empathetic approach." Helen McGuire
